Moniki Melo

Hydrometeorologist

Ms. Melo is a Senior Hydrometeorologist at Applied Weather Associates. She brings over six years of experience in meteorological, renewables energy and climate consulting, high-resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) and statistical data modeling. At AWA, she has been actively involved in probable maximum precipitation (PMP) development, extreme storm analysis, climate model projections, and regional precipitation frequency analysis. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology and a Master’s Degree in Climate Sciences from the Federal University of Rio Grande Do Norte (Brazil) in 2018 and 2020, respectively. Additionally, Ms. Melo holds an Associate of Technology degree in Geology from the Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. During her technical degree in Geology, Ms. Melo co-led research on the monitoring of mining-related disasters using geoprocessing techniques. Her early research as a CNPq Fellowship undergraduate explored the performance of IPCC climate models for localized climates in Brazil, bridging the gap between global climate data and regional needs. She worked as a research intern, conducting simulations and supporting numerical modeling with reanalysis datasets, satellite observations, and field measurements. Her technical expertise encompasses Python, R, ArcGIS/QGIS, and hydrological modeling systems. This interdisciplinary background allows her to assess and model interactions between terrain parameters and atmospheric conditions, critical for storm and precipitation forecasting. Fluent in English, Portuguese, and Intermediate in Spanish, and French, Ms. Melo thrives in diverse and collaborative environments. Passionate about applying hydrometeorological research to real-world infrastructure challenges, she is committed to advancing science to enhance the resilience and safety of critical projects worldwide.
