- North Dakota Statewide PMP is officially released for public use. Information and study output can be found here and here. Thank you to the leadership and support of North Dakota dam safety and the State Water Commision for making the project a success.
- AWA and NOAA's Physical Sciences Laboratory will be publishing work describing the importance collaboration which utilized high resolution ensemble numerical model simulation to produce more accurate extreme precipitation information. This output was then applied thorough AWA's SPAS process to accurately characterize historical extreme precipitation events. Read the early online release version here.
- AWA presented on the recent extreme rainfall near Waverly, TN and from Ida in PA-NJ-NY during the opening general session at the Dam Safety Conference in Nashville, September 13, 2021. Click here for the presentation.
- Kristi Steinhilber, AWA’s Staff Meteorologist, volunteers for STEMblazers. Through this organization, Kristi is able to speak in front of middle and high-school girls all over Colorado about Meteorology and the importance of being a Woman in STEM. Between doing hands on experiments and describing other for meteorology majors, like PMP studies, Kristi hopes to inspire the next generation of Meteorologists. - The island-wide PMP update for Puerto Rico was completed in August. This updates outdated data last published in 1961. The PMP report can be read here.
- Bill Kappel provided a detailed lecture for the Mine Water Waster and Closure Course at the Colorado School of Mines. PMP and meteorological data development and uses were discussed in detail. See the lecture here.
- AWA welcomes Marty Venticinque to the team. Marty has an extensive background in meteorology including an extensive meteorological broadcast career and storm chasing adventures. Learn more about Marty here.
- Doug Hultstrand, AWA's Senior Hydrometeorologist, just completed his PhD work at Colorado State University. Congratulations to Doug for all his years of hard work and accomplishing such an important milestone.

- AWA was a co-author on a paper detailing the rarity of the rainfall associated with the August 2016 storm which resulted in devastating flooding in the Baton Rouge region. The paper will be published in the April edition of the Journal of Hydrometeorology, but you can read a copy hear.

- AWA wins Published Paper of the Year award at the Canadian Dam Association Annual Conference for our work on the Springbank-Elbow River off stream storage PMP project. The unique project was accomplished as part of a team with Stantec, who completed the hydrologic applications and engineering and Alberta Transportation. The paper is available here.
